CHRIS-CRAFT 23’ BARREL BACK TRIPLE
There
were 26 built, sadly only 13 exist. This is the first 1942
delivered, hull #22211. Restored
in 1993 by Juul Boat Works, won Best Chris-Craft at Hessel.
In
2002 received a complete update by Macatawa Bay Boat Works,
with Chris Smith consulting.
The interior has been
restored to the original, Aqua-Marine leather. Legend has been
re-powered with an Indmar 5.7L Monsoon MPI V-8 making 325 hp and
387 ft. lbs. of torque, producing a top speed of about 44 mph! .
The engine has less than 50 hours on it.
The prop is a 13 x Lh 13. It has silver-faced gauges, perhaps
left over from the 1941 production run (it was the first boat delivered of
the 1942s), but the larger “scoop” vents found in later 1941s and all
1942s. It now resides in Salem Oregon.
Legend was completely spiffed up in a major bit of work at Macatawa Bay
Boat Works where it was re-powered, received about 15 coats of varnish,
new bottom paint, a new burlwood dash, new stainless fuel system
and Clawson gauges to match the modern power.
The boat includes a 2002
custom-made trailer with two custom-made sunbrella covers – one a
waterline cover and one a towing cover.
This is one of
the finest 23 foot Barrel Backs out there. It won President's Choice
at the Portland, Oregon Show in June of 2003
