Macatawa Bay Boat Works Restoration 
1965 Chris Craft 18' Super Sport

owned by the Magnell Family of Honor, Michigan

This unusual boat is one-family owned since new and came to us for a restoration. 

The boat was ordered by the current owner's uncle who worked for Chris Craft at the Algonac, Michigan Plant.  It has some unique features that were custom ordered including the older style double bottom instead of a plywood bottom that was more commonly used in 1965.  The owner stated the boat had been in storage for over 10 years.

The bilge has years of oil build up.  It will be thoroughly degreased and repainted.
Nate strips the old varnish and stain off the hullsides
Jesse sands the covering boards and transom in preparation for stain.  The bottom transom plank was loose, so it was removed for refastening with stainless screws and 3M-5200 adhesive.
Correct for this year and model, the decks were covered in white vinyl.  This has been removed and the plywood decking has been sealed with penetrating epoxy.  New vinyl will be installed over the decking and a new mahogany king plank will be installed.
Aft deck area are painted white and were badly cracked from multiple layers of paint and expansion and contraction over the years.  These area where stripped to bare wood and sanded to make for a smooth surface.
The bottom is original and in very good condition, it has been sanded and repainted copper-bronze.
Water testing the boat with the customer the day of pick-up.  On board is the current owner and his family including his mother who purchased the boat new.
