1959 Chris Craft Sea Skiff 30 foot Open

 

 
Originally delivered to Spring Lake, Michigan in 1959, this 30' Sea Skiff in the relatively rare Open configuration (no hard top) spent it whole life on Lake Michigan in the area between Spring Lake and Lake Macatawa in Holland, Michigan.  Known to many of the locals, "White Star" spent twenty years or more along the "wall" at Eldean's Marina in Macatawa Bay.  Once owned and enjoyed by the owner of Macatawa Bay Boat Works, the boat has been sold to a new owner who will use and keep the boat on Beaver Island, Michigan.  

The new owner is having us do some extensive work and upgrades to the boat including all new varnish solid mahogany deck, custom built varnished mahogany seating with leather upholstery, restored mechanicals, refurbished pair of Chris Craft KL engines with slightly more horse power than the original K engines, restored gauges, new fuel tanks, completely new streamlined windshield design built in mahogany, custom integrated swim platform, new transom, refinish of the hullsides with change of color from white to dark navy blue and custom convertible top.

Pictured below we begin to remove the teak decks (non original).

next we remove the original plywood sub decking 
some deck frames were replaced with new mahogany and we installed a completely new sapele mahogany bulkhead 
Making a new aft deck of slightly longer length above. Also framed in are the support for the covering boards. 

Below, the new marine plywood sub deck is dry fit.

The hullsides are chemically and mechanically stripped of about 15 layers of paint that was applied over the years. 

Also seen below is a mock up of an initial windshield and coming design and profile.
